Hello everybody, Shadow here, with some updates on the development of BDD. Recently, we've been working on Level Six, which is technically the ninth level in the game because of boss and tutorial levels, but I digress. This level brings a lot of changes to the usually layout of our levels, such as the orientation, enemies types and a high quantity of bonus areas where you can gather more XP and medpacks.
If you've ever tested the alpha build before, you'll notice something is slightly off. For those of you who haven't, I don't blame you. Instead of using ladders to go up and reach a warpgate, you must drop down off ledges and little holes to traverse to the warpgate, which is at the bottom of the map. This allows for a leap of faith(Which the player must take) to get off the starting platform and a few holes below it, either throwing you right into a fight or an isolated encounter with a new enemy. For example, in the first two platforms they drop down to, the player is faced with a new enemy(You can't tell because it doesn't have a specialized sprite yet), which is a faster and more powerful bee enemy. This is the first of the two enemies they encounter, and can familiarize themselves with it before moving to the next "floor", which pits you off against some enemies you already know, alongside the new bee enemy. Another example would be at the last platform at the bottom, the one that houses the warpgate. There, you face off against a new miniboss, the charge miniboss. This miniboss, well, charges, and will be included in the boss stage right after this level. This guy can only be beaten through jumping, since his charge is pretty fast and does a decent amount of damage. This, combined with some basic enemies and the jump miniboss, makes a formidable warpgate floor.
Another thing you may notice is the areas that contain enemies and aren't necessarily required for progressing through the level. Here the player can grab some much-needed medpacks and fight a few more aliens for extra XP so they're better prepared to fight the boss.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post, because I had a lot of fun writing it. Write a comment below telling us what you think, or like/share on facebook or twitter. See you in 002!
